How Much Dust Extraction Do I Need?
Traditional machines usually give the airflow at 25 m/s
Machines that produce large volumes of shavings such as a 4 side planer or thicknesser are normally needing an air speed of 28 m/s
CNC Routers, Panel saws, and Edgebanders normally are calculated at 30 m/s or more
Eg: When a spindle moulder with 2 x 120 mm outlets, a suction volume of approx. 2024 m3 / hr is required to get optimum extraction. It is therefore recommended that the extraction complies with this.

Dust extraction can be very confusing, and different manufacturers give different volumes required at different speeds. This is a guide for diameters and the corresponding capacity required for your dust extractor which should help you compare 'apples with apples' and make the right decision.
If for example the CNC machine you are buying is equipped with a 250mm diameter dust extraction connection, you can use the tables below to find out which extractor is suitable for your application [5299 cmh] but if possible you should always ask the manufacturer for the actual machine requirement first.
The list is split into 3 applications, depending on the type of machine and airspeed:</p>
